Kim Cooper, the author of the 33 1/3 book on
Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, announced back in March that she would be working on a documentary on the Elephant 6 collective. While some of the original collaborators have dropped out of the project, it has now been reconfigured and is still on track, as she announced on last night's Stray Pop with Stella on KXLU in Los Angeles. She will be working with filmmaker and "zinester"
Russ Forster. I will be involved to a small extent. Kim writes, "We've decided to create a collaborative environment where various folks with skill as filmmakers can join us, in a spirit similar to that of E6, and contribute material to fit an overarching script that we will write. We will also be creating content as time and schedules permit." It's a new model for constructing a film, and it sounds exciting. Much of this is still in the planning stages, but stay tuned.
